This is the fun part of wedding planning, the HONEYMOON!!
When we first started talking about places to go for our honeymoon, we figured the Bahamas would be it for sure. I always have wanted to go to the Bahamas. There is just something romantic and adventurous going to an island. After some thinking, I slowly started changing my mind about the Bahamas. It seems to have gotten too “touristy” and “commercialized” lately. Don’t get me wrong, one day I would still love to go there.I knew for sure that our honeymoon would be on an island. So what other nice islands are there; Tahiti, Fiji, & Hawaii is what I came up with. Hawaii would have been my last choice, partly because I had been there already. Fiji was too long of a flight to get there, 16-hours. That leaves Tahiti.
Tahiti is part of the overseas French territory called French Polynesia. Tahiti is closer than we thought; it’s about an 8-hour flight from Los Angeles, and about halfway between California and Australia. Romance, beauty, and seclusion. The small islands and beaches are what lead us here. I don’t think we would have found this in the Bahamas. Something about Tahiti makes me think of only images I could dream of, like no other place I have, or probably will, see in my lifetime.
I can’t wait to see what the infamous “Tahitian Black Pearl” looks like. I hear the good quality ones go for upwards of $500. Some of the activities I’ve read about are: shark feeding tours, scuba diving, hiking, four-wheeling, and last but not least, the BEACHES and WATERFALLS.
So this leads to our next route; what islands in Tahiti should we choose to stay at? After much research, I had it down to 2 choices, Moorea and Bora Bora.
Moorea is considered “The Magical Island.” I believe this is more of a “mountain” island than Bora Bora. The wide lagoon surrounds the mountains where the waterfalls are located. This is where most of our activities will be. Hiking (to get to the waterfalls), diving, four-wheeling, etc.
Bora Bora is “The Romantic Island.” Simply said, Bora Bora is the most beautiful island in the world. This could easily be described as the center of the romantic universe. Perfect white-sand beaches, the most colored fish, and giant mantra rays. We plan to do absolutely NOTHING on this island. Well, what I mean is, this is where we will relax, take in the beauty of the island, and lay on the beach all day. We may go diving, and perhaps if I’m brave enough, shark and ray feeding.
Our trip was booked through Costco Travel – which I highly recommend. Our itinerary includes 7 nights;1 night on Tahiti, 3 nights on Moorea, and 3 nights on Bora Bora. We will be staying at upscale resorts including: Sheraton Hotel Tahiti Resort & Spa, Sheraton Moorea Lagoon Resort & Spa, and Bora Bora Nui Resort & Spa. At the Bora Bora Nui, one night will include a stay in a Horizon Overwater Villa. All the other nights are either in a Lagoon View Suite or Garden/Beach Bungalow.
Richard and I are so excited, we can hardly wait.
