Happy 10th Anniversary
We’re almost there. Two more months and we’ll be celebrating our very first year as a married couple. It’s quite exciting, we can’t wait. Our cruise is booked, we’ve still working on getting house, and all-in-all things are going as best as can be expected.
With the whole State debacle where Governor Schwarzenegger signed the executive order cutting all State worker’s pay to the Federal minimum wage of $6.55 an hour with the layoff scares in the City and County of San Francisco. As some of you know, Andrea works for the State and I work for San Francisco County. In Andrea’s situation, the $6.55 an hour most likely won’t take effect because: 1) John Chiang (the State Controller) has flat said, and is, refusing to follow through with the executive order; 2) the budget is to be signed any day now; and 3) The time it would take for the Controller’s office to implement the $6.55 would make it not worthwhile because by the time the systems are all switched to pay everyone $6.55, the budget will be signed and then the pays will have to be readjusted to the norm. It is a shame for the 10,000 or more seasonal and temporary State workers who have lost their jobs.
In the City and County of San Francisco, Mayor Gavin Newsom has proposed in his budget a layoff of 1,085 jobs, of which 450 are actual filled jobs. The attorneys (in the Public Defender’s, the District Attorney’s, and City Attorney’s offices) all voted to take a 2% temporary pay cut in lieu of any layoffs. My Union saw the lost of 19 professional technical and engineers laid off, some of which were middle management.
These are definitely some scary times. But on a lighter note, today Stripes gets her shots to keep her nice and healthy. Her poor little bum :(.
