Usana RESET Kit: Day 5 of 5

by Richard Bui - Posted Under: Wedding

Final day, all went well until we succumbed to eating dinner. Total weight loss on the Usana RESET Kit: 8 lbs. Not bad. I’ll be following up a post in the near future about whether or not the weight loss is permanent of merely because of caloric deficiency.

I am on Day 1 of the Reset program, so it was great to find your blog. I have decided to kind of jump to a modified phase 2 and substitute broiled chicken or fish with vegetables instead of the evening shake. It’s snowing today, and the thought of 5 days on only cold food (well, cold food and morning coffee or espresso) makes me suspicious that I would not stick with it. I am doing the lemon bar with espresso first thing in the morning, a shake mid-morning, a shake with 1/2 a fruit serving mixed in for lunch, the peanunt butter bar in the afternoon, and the chicken/fish combo for dinner. I figure if I’m really hungry, I can have the third shake after dinner, or a Zone Perfect bar, which has been studied to be low GI. I plan to gradually work to a balance of Usana products and low GI foods to continue losing whatever weight comes off the first 5 days. My only complaint is that as a high-fiber supplement, the shakes are a little gritty, and I’m definitely more windy than normal. I will take some digestive enzymes tomorrow to help with that. I’m not sure if the Health Pak vitamins are necessary, so I may substitute my own, which make me burp less. I find my flax seed oil capsules preferable to whatever Usana uses. Glad to hear you had a good experience–thanks for the insight!

  2. We didn’t have any issues with excessive gas since we already take in a “normal” level of fiber. It will take a bit getting used to, but you should be fine.

I understand that you might not want to be drinking and eating more cold food given that it is cold where you are at, but I do highly recommend that you try following the 5 day RESET exactly, you will be much happier. The whole purpose of the 5 day RESET is to kick start your body. It’s painstaking to do, but it’s only for 5 days and it works. We feel much better, the weight is staying off and we are not as prone to junk food as we were before.

I mean you can have vegetables and fruits. If you want something warm or hot, just broil up some broccoli or have some steamed carrots, etc. You can do it!

  3. Did you manage to keep the weight off? Because a 1000(-ish) calorie per day diet looks like it is just begging for a yo-yo effect. I mean, sure, with extreme calorie restriction you’ll lose weight, but will you actually keep it off? What was your experience?

  4. Was interested in reading about your Usana journey. I haven’t started my reset yet because my sponsor told me that I could not drink my ritual ONE cup of either decaf or regular coffee in the morning. He said I couldn’t have soda at all either which is not that much of a problem however I do enjoy a diet coke once in awhile. It’s really the coffee that’s a problem as it is a quiet time in the morning that my husband and I share together before our busy day begins. I have no problem with drinking lots of water and not cheating otherwise but I just can’t imagine one cup of coffee whether regular or decaf could make any major difference? I saw on your comments that you COULD have your soda? I’m confused and don’t want to screw this up! I hope you have some advice for me so I can go ahead and start this thing. Also have you lost more and kept the weight off? Thanx for your time. Oh and your pics are cute!!

Yes, we both managed to keep the weight off. I’m down another 3 pounds since the Usana Reset. I think the whole idea of the Reset is as it implies, a radical method to kick start weight loss. It cleans up your eating, lowers urges and temptations, and curbs your portion sizes so that you shouldn’t be back to the way you were eating before. For the best success, it is recommended that you replace one meal with the shakes, we didn’t do that. We just eat smaller portions more often.

If I recall correctly, it’s the regular soda that they want you to give up. Diet soda, in moderation, is fine. I can imagine how difficult it is to give up something routine and ritualistic as the cup of coffee in the morning, but think of it this way, it is only temporary. And you’ll feel much better (not for the first couple of days because of the calorie deficiency and lack of caffeine) after all of it is over.

As I answered Heather’s comment above, we have been able to keep the weight off.

Thanks for the compliments on the pics!

Let us know how well it goes!
