A Nice Day At San Francisco Zoo

by Richard Bui - Posted Under: Day Trip, Travel

sfzoo-sequoia-john-flynn.jpgAndrea and I went to the San Francisco Zoo on Saturday. The weather was overcast and cold, but it was still a nice day never-the-less. We saw lots of animals including the lions and a tiger.

I was able to get a lot of nice pictures, for those who are interested, you can see them on Flickr. Also got some nice shots of SF Zoo’s resident bald eagle, Sequoia and her long-time handler, John Flynn.

All-in-all, it was a very nice day!

Happy Birthday Stripes

by Richard Bui - Posted Under: Birthday Wishes

Today is our cat’s 5th birthday. We generally buy her some toys to play with and sashimi as her treat. She was a little grumpy today, but once she got a taste of the sashimi, she was a happy kitty. I did manage to get some shots of her which I’ll post up later once I’m done processing.

Matchbox Twenty and Alanis Morissette concert

by Andrea Bui - Posted Under: Personal

matchbox-20-exile-in-america.jpgRichard and I went to see Matchbox Twenty on Wednesday, March 12 at HP Pavilion in San Jose. What was totally awesome was that Alanis Morissette was the opening act. Both Richard and I are Alanis Morissette fans, but our main reason was of course for Matchbox Twenty. We have seen Rob Thomas (lead singer of MB20) twice in concert prior to this. Just when we thought Rob Thomas was going to stay solo and a possibility of Matchbox Twenty no more, they released their 4th album finally entitled, Exile on Mainstream. As for the new album, I like a few of the songs, “How Far We’ve Come”, “All Your Reasons”, and “These Hard Times.” My favorite of them at the moment is “All Your Reasons,” kind of has a personal message to me at the moment. hehe…

Anyway, on with the concert review. There was an opening band before Alanis [Richard: They are called Mute Math], but I did not catch their name, they were alright. Then……..Alanis took center stage. Of course she opened with one of my all-time favorites, “Uninvited.” She definitely worked the stage and got me excited. She is a great live performer. She performed most all of her popular songs, and my favorite, “You Oughta Know.” She sang a lot of her new songs also, none of which I admit, i’ve heard. Now that i’ve heard some new songs, I’m going to have to check out her new album. Like Rob Thomas said when he took stage, “Alanis is a BAD ASS.” Isn’t that what makes her sooooooooooooo damn cool. She says what we all really feel but are too “chicken shit” to say. God I love her.

I’ll let Richard do the Matchbox Twenty review. In conclusion, I must say……THIS WAS THE MOST AWESOME, EXCITING, ABSOLUTE BEST CONCERT I’VE EVER BEEN TO…..and let me tell you, Richard and I have been to more concerts than anyone I know.

We’ve seen Rob Thomas 2 times, Air Supply 3 times, Nickelback, Puddle of Mudd, Finger Eleven, Depeche Mode, James Blunt, Metallica, Godsmack, Elton John (totally awesome), Keith Urban, Al Green, LeRoy Martez Bell, Lionel Richie, Scissor Sisters, Flogging Molly, Greenday, 3 Doors Down, Scorpions, Heart, Beth Hart, Anna Nalick.

Prior to this concert, Nickelback was the best concert we had been to. WAY TO GO MATCHBOX TWENTY FOR AN AWESOME SHOW AND PERFORMANCE.

Richard’s Thoughts on MB20

The first time we saw Rob Thomas perform was when he released his successful solo album “Something to Be” in Ventura, California, which he was great. The second time we watched him perform, he didn’t do as well. So now that Matchbox Twenty was finally touring again, we hoped the performance would be good. Boy were we wrong, they were kick ass especially with their opening song, “Let’s See How Far We Come”. From the moment they stepped on stage to when they left, the energy of the crowd was intense. They performed some of their classics such as “Unwell”, “3 A.M.”, “Push”, and new songs from their new album, Exile on Mainstream. Rob Thomas also introduced Matchbox Twenty’s newest member, drummer Ryan McMillan, who was also great.

We definitely enjoyed ourselves thoroughly. Unfortunately I was not able to  get very many pictures because of a “point-and-shoot” camera policy in effect, which is very unusual for the HP Pavilion because their normal camera policy is no lens longer than 6 inches. Although I did manage to get some decent limited shots that can be seen on our Flickr site.

Usana RESET Kit: Day 5 of 5

by Richard Bui - Posted Under: Wedding

Final day, all went well until we succumbed to eating dinner. Total weight loss on the Usana RESET Kit: 8 lbs. Not bad. I’ll be following up a post in the near future about whether or not the weight loss is permanent of merely because of caloric deficiency.
