Reno and Snow

Andrea and I spent our Martin Luther King Jr. Holiday in Reno, Nevada, “The Biggest Little City in the World”. We borrowed my parent’s 2000 Ford Expedition (AWD baby!) and headed out Saturday morning. Took us about 5-6 hours to arrive, with stops in between to take pics and use the facilities. The drive up was nice and calming, with no snow or need for chains or AWD; Andrea was regretting that we took the SUV rather than the car.

We arrived well into the afternoon and checked into The Silver Legacy. The rooms were OK, too much brown. Andrea didn’t like the room at all. Normally we would stay at Circus Circus, but I figured we should experiment this time. The price was $10 more per night. Not worth it. No fridge or microwave in the room. So after checking in, we did a bit of gambling. Lost at blackjack. Lost quickly. Then we decided to try our hand at roulette. A coworker at work had recommended that we try roulette because it lasts longer. Sat at a table and asked the dealer how to play; she was gracious enough to teach us. Turned out to be quite simple and fun! Won some money; then lost it all.

The Beaubiens

We had also let Andrea’s aunt and uncle-in-law know we were going to be in the area; they live in Sparks, Nevada and so we were scheduled to have dinner with them Saturday Sunday night. We did some light shopping and left for dinner. The drive to Sparks, specifically, where Andrea’s aunt (Diana) and uncle (Ben) lived, wasn’t too difficult and we got to see Sparks and how it’s growing.

Diana and Ben Beaubien used to live here in Novato, California until they retired and moved to Sparks. Their house is absolutely beautiful with an amazing view of the snow covered mountains. Not to mention how quiet it is as opposed to the hustle and bustle of the Bay Area.

Peg’s Glorified Ham and Cheese

We had breakfast Sunday morning at Peg’s Glorified Ham and Cheese at 420 South Sierra, Reno, Nevada 89501. I had read some reviews on Yelp and a good majority of them had mentioned that it was the best breakfast place in Reno. The portion size is definitely hefty! The food was good. Definitely worth going to.

9 Hour Traffic

We left Reno Monday at around 10 a.m. stopping for breakfast at Boomtown Casino. We thought we had originally missed breakfast, but turns out they had a brunch special because of the holiday weekend. We had eaten here last time we were in Reno. The price is decent for the breakfast buffet; but much of the food is way too greasy. We were back on the road by about 11 a.m.

Things started slowing down pretty bad about 5 miles out to the border. Turns out part of the traffic slowdown was because there was only two lanes open at the California Department of Agriculture’s border check point. Traffic was horribly slow even after that point because a snow storm was picking up.

Fortunately, 9 hours later, we made it home safely and to bed.

The first theme developed for Andrea and Richard was a custom designed theme by me to keep friends and family up-to-date with our wedding information. Andrea and Richard version 1 was inspired with a specific theme in mind: fall, our wedding, and Andrea’s love of pumpkins.

After the wedding, to spice things up by changing the design so we used Forever Autumn theme designed by Joni Ang since.

I’ve finally been able to develop a new theme that we are both relatively happy with and so now; we present our new theme: Andrea and Richard version 2. There are still some minor additions that I need to make to complete this theme; but essentially it is done. Enjoy.

Had we not been married yet, today would have marked exactly 4 years of dating. While today may no longer have as much significance as our wedding date, it’s still worth remembering.

Happy Anniversary baby.

We have been, and our in the process of, saving money. We want to buy a house, hopefully this year. It seems like a good time to buy now. We thought most all of our stress was over AFTER the wedding. But it just goes to show you, life always throws you a curve. I know it will be a big sacrifice to buy a house; we won’t have money to take nice trips like we used to, nice clothes, etc. But, I think overall a house is the most important thing. After all, we need to do it while we’re young with those 30 and 40-year loans. GOD……that’s sooooooooooooo long.

I guess we’re still in the “honeymoon” phase of marriage, and we count every month as our anniversary. LOL I’m sure after our one year anniversary, we’ll stop counting by month……but for now, happy 3 month anniversary.
